Abstract

This study assesses bone diagenesis degree and chemical changes associated to burial processes by means of chemical techniques and mineralogical analysis. To evaluate bone collagen degradation and secondary phases formation during bone diagenesis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) are used. During diagenesis bone chemical and isotopic composition variations occur. However, correlation between bone degradation and the chemical and isotopic variation was not observed in studied samples.
