Résumé

38 cases of anterior disk displacement without reduction diagnosed by means of magnetic resonance imaging have been revised. The diagnostic involvements as well as the response to the conservative treatment have been discussed. 29% of the patients showed some kind q/severe occlusal alteration; 68% of them showed articular hipermobility and 92% showed some kind of parafunctional habit, mainly clenching. About 30% of the cases kept the lateral mandibular movement and the end feel. 66% of the cases showed a positive response to the conservative treatment. The response in those cases in which a repositioning splint was applied after mandibular manipulation was better than the results when the splint was applied without having recaptured the disk previously. Mandibular manipulation with physiotherapy succeeded only in 8% of the cases.
