Abstract

The direct immunofluorescence (IF-D) method for diagnosis of herpetic keratitis was evaluated in 50 eyes with corneal pathology. The clinical picture and the response to the treatment was compared with the IF-D results in order to establish the sensitivity and specificity of the test. From our results we conclude that IF-D is a reliable, simple and rapid method, with a high specificity and acceptable sensitivity, that can be useful for diagnosis of visual forms of herpetic keratitis.
