Abstract

The subcutaneous route is one of the best choices when treating a patient presenting difficulties to be administered through a peripheral cannula. The symptoms present at specific times might turn access to a peripheral vein unavailable or thus difficult for nursing care. Generally, venous access could be painful and uncomfortable for older patients. Peripheral intravenous access is technically more difficult, means greater physical mobility restrictions and more frequent punctures. Promoting the use of subcutaneous pipeline is more advantageous for the patient and bears a better cost-effectives ratio.
