We present two cases of hypokalemia, in which the diagnosis of liquorice-induced pseudohyperaldosteronism was made. We review the pathophysiology and the most serious complications of this syndrome, underscoring the need of considering it in the differential diagnosis of hypokalemia and high blood pressure. The potential severe consequences, and the easy therapy, discontinuing liquorice consumption and with potassium supplements, make us recommend that clinicians should be familiar with this uncommon adverse effect of food products considered as safe.
