Zusammenfassung

Objective:To increase awareness of urologic disease resulting from chronic use of ketamine as a recreational drug. Material and methods: We present the case of a 23-year-old woman with severe irritative voiding syndrome who was a chronic, daily ketone user. We review the cases described in the literature, linking chronic bladder disease with consumption of this drug. Results: This disease affects young, daily drinkers of ketamine, who have lower urinary tract symptoms, with extreme urinary frequency, nocturia, urgency, incontinence, lower abdominal pain and occasionally hematuria. Imaging tests reveal bladder wall thickening and decreased capacity. In published series, unior bilateral uropathy was found in half of the cases, although this finding was absent in our case. On cystoscopy, there are inflammatory changes similar to those of interstitial cystitis. Histopathological analysis reveals chronic nonspecific cystitis. Conclusions: Ketamine-induced cystopathy was unknown until recently, being first described in 2007. The incidence of this disease may be increasing, causing it to become a health problem. Cessation of ketamine use provides the best guarantee for clinical improvement. Botulinum toxin is an option to provide symptom relief.
