Abstract

Double J pyelovesical catheters are frequently used in distinct situations in urology. Their use is indicated mainly in ureteral permeabilization for neoplastic occlusions, as an aid in expelling stone fragments after lithotripsy and to help renoureteral stones advance to the bladder. When used in benign disease (such as lithiasis and/or post lithotripsy), once the treatment is over, the catheter is extracted. The procedure of choice is usually a transurethral endoscopic manoeuvre. Only occasionally, when cystoscopic extraction is unfeasible for various reasons, can percutaneous extraction be attempted, as in the case presented herein.
