Abstract
The current Spanish National Psychiatry Commission has prepared a new resident training programme that includes a comprehensive plan to ensure future psychiatrists have the necessary skills in psychotherapy. The Commission has commissioned a group of experts to develop a detailed programme to comply with those requirements. This article analyses the information available internationally, along with the training requirements, the chosen theoretical models, and the criteria to monitor and assess the programmes.
