Abstract

In recent years there is an increasing number of studies devoted to the analysis of the insufficiencies of the schizophrenia concept and the need of a terminological change. In the present paper I analyze the core features of this proposal from a conceptual point of view. It is concluded that this view is a prolongation of the neopositivist and biological approaches in psychiatry in addition to the influence of the pharmaceutical industry. The necessity of a psychopathological theory that can give answer to future nosological changes is pointed out.
