Abstract

Alopecia is a relatively common condition. Most patients are worried about hair loss. To make a good differential diagnosis is important to be familiar with the different entities that cause this pathology. This paper describes the main forms and characteristics of non-scarring alopecia including androgenic alopecia, alopecia areata and telogen effluvium, and the main forms of scarring alopecia including lichen planopilaris, discoid lupus erythematosus and other less frequent entities. Its etiopathogenic mechanism, diagnosis and treatment are also reviewed.
