Abstract

Nowadays, Nursing is an inconspicuous profession and its competences are frequently not very clear. Furthermore is a group that is associated with stress and burnout, but despite this, many people choose nursing as their profession. A study with qualitative methodology was conducted to know the perception of nurses about their profession. For this purpose a focus group was carried out and a content analysis was performed, six thematic areas were identified. Participants generally expressed a positive view of their profession though several areas for improvement emerged, such as the lack of visibility of the profession in society, high workloads, job instability, stress and even differences in treatment to the professional by gender. It is also noteworthy the lack of bond perceived by nurses in their profession.
