Abstract

The Cd and Zn uptake by yeast occured in two stages, a surfaceadsorption plus a membrane transport. The modcl pe.rameters were the adsorption constant, the carrier rate and the ratio of the rate constants for each metal. Based on them, Cd promoted the reverse carrier reaction for Zn transport, leading to an inhibition in thc uptakc; although Cd transport was not influenced by Zn. This differences was due to thc cssential and nonesscntial nature of both ions.
