Resumen

Lymphedema is defined as the accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the interstitial space. In our environment, the most common presentation is as the consequence of the breast cancer treatment. Although the standard physical therapy, compression measures and local skin care is very beneficial in most cases, it requires a lot of discipline and perseverance from patients, since they must keep these treatments for an indefinite period. To solve these problems, some microsurgical techniques have been developed, such as lymphovenous bypass or microvascular lymph node transfer, which are showing promising results in the treatment of this disease.
