Abstract
Meningiomas are a type of brain tumour located within the nervous system with an incidence of 8.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. Just as it is known to affect women more often than men (3:2), there is also an earlier age of onset in cases where there is a concomitant hereditary syndrom1. Surgical intervention is sometimes the only treatment available. These interventions sometimes have consequences arising from the operation itself or from the natural evolution of the tumour in the post-surgical phases. This is why it is common to find cases of hemiparesis caused either by the meningioma or by its removal2. This article presents a clinical case of a 17-year-old male with hemiparesis resulting from the removal of a type I meningioma. An anamnesis is presented with a complete initial assessment, treatment applied from the physiotherapeutic point of view, evolution produced and conclusions derived from all of the above. With regard to the treatment applied, the Bobath method was adapted to a rehabilitation in which proprioceptive and motor control exercises were introduced, which together with the manufacture of devices with low-cost materials to simulate familiar activities for the patient, increased the patient’s attention during the treatment.
