Zusammenfassung
Between 5 and 10% of patients admitted to a hospital environment will develop a disease that was contracted in such an environment. This pathology, in addition to that which caused the patient to be admitted to hospital, has important repercussions both clinically for the patient and economically for the healthcare system responsible for their care1. Epidemiological surveillance systems such as EPINE (Estudio de Prevalencia de las Infecciones Nosocomiales de España) exist to solve this problem. This monographic article breaks down the most important data from its latest published version, referring to the year 2019, and develops the clinical implications it may have.
