Abstract

Compared to the general population, cardiovascular morbidity and mortality are increased in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This increased cardiovascular (CV) risk is not accounted for by traditional risk factors. The commonly used CV indexes (Framingham and SCORE) have a low sensitivity for detecting patients with RA and high/very high cardiovascular risk. These CV indexes do not include inflammation parameters related to RA, which are responsible for the accelerated atherosclerosis that occurs in these patients. More sensitive tools are needed to correctly determine individual cardiovascular risk in patients with RA. The following work aims to improve the early detection of patients with RA and high/very high cardiovascular risk. We study the influence of different clinical data related to RA and the outcome of cardiovascular events. We compare the validity and efficacy of mSCOREEULAR, QRISK3, and carotid ultrasound data. The objective is to validate and improve the predictive model for determining cardiovascular risk in patients with RA in clinical practice.
